EXTENSION AND REMODELLING OF 1960s ARCHITECT DESIGNED HOME, PREVIOUSLY REJECTED BY PLANNING

The property was built on the site of a bomb-damaged house originally in the 1960s by an architect who lived there. The property has not undergone many changes since then except for the addition of a very poor conservatory and a falling apart stable in the back garden! Our Client had used a Wimbledon architectural firm to get planning permission for an extension but met heavy opposition from neighbours and therefore the local authority refused permission. It was at that point that we received a distressed call and learned of the somewhat traumatic history that they had undergone. This was an ideal job for us, a Client with a dream, on a tight budget who was near ready to give up the fight. Instead of appealing a decision that had already been made we approached the work from our own unique standpoint and simply re-applied from a different perspective and with local knowledge and confidence. We are happy to say that we indeed succeeded, we met the planners and presented our ideas, they loved our proposals and agreed that all the works would be a benefit to the area. We were always considerate of the neighbours and supportive to our Client who, "...had been through hell...", prior to our involvement. The project was quickly drawn up and specified. The ground floor was remodelled to have a new extension with open plan living, dining and kitchen with separate utility room. Upstairs the roof was reinsulated to new standards and the floor re-modelled taking out all structural walls to convert to a Master bedroom with ensuite, a new modern family bathroom, 2 bedrooms and a home office. Our Clients love their beautiful and functional new home. As for the neighbours, they are still all there but we tilted the windows to make sure there is no overlooking!
